Plantations - Stocks set to go up in September

Malaysia's palm oil stocks were flat mom at 1.67m tonnes as at end-Aug 13. This is 4% below our and consensus projections due mainly to higher exports to China and EU, which helped to counter the steady mom rise in production.

But CPO prices failed to react positively to this due to concerns over rising stocks in the coming month. We expect Sep palm oil stocks to rise 13% mom as exports may not be able to keep up with the higher production. We keep our Neutral sector call and add Astra Agro, which we recently upgraded to Trading Buy, to our top pick list comprising First Resources, Wilmar and IOI.
