News Updates:

  1. Oil prices surged in Asian trade on Monday, with Brent crude passing US$103 as escalating tensions in Libya fuelled concerns over instability spreading across the oil-producing Arab states, analysts said.
  2. European Central Bank official said the bank may need to boost interest rates as inflation pressures grow. U.S. stocks and oil advanced.
  3. Bloomberg data show. U.S. markets will be closed for a three-day weekend for the President's Day holiday.
  4. South Korean exports for the first 20 days of February rose 10.6% over the comparable 2010 period to reach $23.24 billion. Imports for the same period rose 7.4% from a year earlier to $24.74 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of $1.5 billion, the Korea Customs Service data showed.
  5. The People's Bank of China announced on Friday a 50 basis point RRR rise to a record 19.5 percent. The move will freeze 360 billion yuan when it takes effect on Thursday and adds to an increasingly aggressive government effort to stamp out stubbornly high inflation.
