Singapore Banks - Now and then

Given the looming possibility of Grexit, we assess the banks' key metrics and outlook against the crises of 2008 and 2011. Barring contagion effects to non-European banks, we conclude that the 2015 version of the Greek debt crisis would have limited drag on Singapore banks, which in 2011, gained Asian trade finance market share. We view the banks as beneficiaries of a rising rate environment and valuations appear attractive at 1.32x CY15 P/BV for 12.4% ROE. We remain Overweight on the sector, with OCBC as our top pick, followed by DBS and UOB.
