European Parliament elections May 22-25 Elections for the European Parliament (EP) will take place on 22-25 May. Voters in the 28 EU countries will elect 751 members of the European Parliament (MEP), who will represent over 500 million EU citizens for a five-year term. There has been widespread concern that anti-establishment and Euro-sceptic parties will do well. Indeed, the EP elections are likely to deliver a strong protest vote. Nevertheless, the negative fallout for pan-European policymaking may be smaller than feared.
Instead, the key risk lies in domestic politics of various EU states-particularly in the UK and Greece, but also in France, the Netherlands and Denmark, where anti-establishment parties are likely to do well.
