Overview
Born to Trade is an initiative by Singapore Exchange (SGX) to support the futures and derivatives trading profession and to expand the trading community locally and regionally. It is a novel contribution to SGX's continual commitment to nurture the unique and richly colourful legacy of SGX's trading community, and seeks to pay tribute to the contributions of past and present members of the trading fraternity.

Asia's First Financial Futures Exchange
SGX pays tribute to the founding derivatives trading community that placed Singapore and Asia's first financial futures exchange on the world map 30 years ago. It all began in 1984 when the former Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX) was formed.

In the same year, SIMEX successfully co-pioneered the Mutual Offset System with Chicago Mercantile Exchange which was known as the world's first step towards 24 hours trading across different time zones. From there, SGX's first equity index futures, the Nikkei 225 Index Futures was launched in September 1986. It is the world's first Japanese stock index futures and remains as one of our flagship contracts. In 1999, SIMEX merged with the Stock Exchange of Singapore to form Singapore Exchange.

SGX The Asian Gateway
As a key part of Singapore's financial infrastructure, SGX offers access to the broadest range of Asian equity index derivatives, spanning across capital markets of China, India, Japan, Taiwan and ASEAN. Our trading hours are the longest in Asia, from Asian hours up to the close of European equity markets, and part of the U.S. hours. Over the years, the global migration towards quality and trust has seen investment managers using SGX as their trusted Asian risk-management partner for financial and commodity products.
