In order to increase revenue, the Singapore Exchange (SGX) said on 13 March that it has plans to roll out more products late this year.

3Q2013 – SGX is looking to introduce FX futures once it gets approval from the regulators. It said in a statement that “the introduction of FX futures for trading and clearing is SGX’s response to strong client demand for currency management tools to complement its suite of highly liquid Asian derivatives”. The four currency pairs in the picture are: AUD/USD, INR/USD, AUD/JPY and USD/SGD.

4Q2013 – SGX is planning to launch a Philippines index futures contract, based on the MSCI Philippines index. According to Reuters, the Philippines has the best performing stock market so far in Southeast Asia this year, rising nearly 17%.

Tie up with Korea
In a bid to strengthen its position as the region’s top exchange for derivatives, SGX recently announced that it will explore ways to collaborate on derivatives clearing services with the Korean exchange.

Both exchanges will look at possibilities of allowing users to take advantage of each others’ facilities for over-the-counter derivatives clearing. This move could “ease banks’ concerns that they will either have to invest significantly in becoming members of all the regions’ clearing houses or withdraw from certain markets”, as reported by Reuters.

Invest ASEAN
The seven CEOs of ASEAN Exchanges met in Vietnam on April Fool’s Day to announce the next rollout phase of Invest ASEAN. Currently, the ASEAN Trading Link has three connected exchanges – The Stock Exchange of Thailand, Singapore Exchange and Bursa Malaysia.

Given the successful debut rollout of Invest ASEAN, the ASEAN Exchanges CEOs made clear their decision to start the next phase with HoCHiMinh Stock Exchange. Invest ASEAN will be rolled out to regulators, Brokers and Fund Managers will be included so as to align market players towards integration with other ASEAN capital markets in the future.

SGX will report its third quarter earnings on 16 April.
