UOB – reporting today
The second of the three Singapore banks to report, UOB will release its 1Q12 results today. According to seven analysts polled on Bloomberg, the consensus is an adjusted net income of $626.14mn. UOB’s counterpart DBS had reported record Q1 numbers two weeks ago, with total income crossing $2billion for the first time. UOB closed up 0.7% at $18.33 yesterday.

IndoFood – prediction for palm oil production to gain most in seven months
Another Bloomberg survey revealed expectations for Malaysian palm oil production for the month of April to gain the most in seven months. Median estimates of three plantation companies expect output to advance 6.6% to 1.29mn metric tons from the 1.21mn tons in March. Official numbers will be published by the Palm Oil Board tomorrow.

Palm oil prices have gained 5.8% this year after soybean harvests in South America declined on droughts, draining cooking-oil supplies.

Palm oil play IndoFood Agri closed down 0.4% at $1.405 yesterday.

NOL – shipping rates boosted
Last Friday, Bloomberg reported that container lines are raising Asia-Europe rates for the third time in 2012, helped by restricted capacity, pooled ships and an end to price wars that caused industry wide losses last year. According to the Shanghai exchange, Asia-U.S. west coast route rates have risen 43 percent this year.

The rising rates will bode well for container-line stocks if demand sustains. NOL closed up 0.4% at $1.215 yesterday.
