Bahrain to host Third GCC-ASEAN Ministerial Meeting

Manama, Nov. 25. (BNA) -- At the invitation of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the third ministerial meeting of the GCC and ASEAN groups will be held here tomorrow.

Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the six GCC states and their ASEAN counterparts, from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore and Myanmar, will take part in the meeting.

The meeting aims at building an economic partnership between the two groups, known for their plentiful human resources, high technology, capitals and markets, in order to achieve integration in the economic, cultural, scientific and social fields, as well as promote the concept of Asian commercial and cultural communication.

This concept is in line with the vision presented by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa presented in 2009 to GCC leaders in which he highlighted the importance of the Asian element in the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Bahrain within its activities in the GCC framework.

On the occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the meeting affirms the determination of the GCC states and the ASEAN countries to bolster their relations towards a strategic partnership and cultural communication that help them create a major economic power capable of interacting and developing alongside the rest of the world as vital partners and have an active role in international politics and economy.

He affirmed that in line with HM the King's, which stresses the importance of activating the Asian dimension in the GCC-ASEAN relations, the third meeting of the two groups in the Kingdom of Bahrain is a major opportunity to exchange views, ideas and visions on the best means to bolster their deep-rooted be able to face all international and regional developments and challenges.

The first ministerial meeting of the group was held in 2009 in Manama, while the second took place in Singapore in 2010.

Six teams were established to activate relations between the two groups related to six important fields, including trade, investment, economy, development, education, culture and media.
